The background color is turquoise and the famous Turkmen carpet design is called Mairy Gul
In rug weaving, the Turkmen rug is a special phenomenon. It is sometimes possible for an Iranian rug to be mistaken for a hand-knotted fabric from India, the Caucasus, Anatolia, and even farther afield. But when it comes to the Turkmen rug, such a mistake is almost impossible. This is because the Turkmen rug has a distinct identity of its own. The history of this rug is unknown, as the oldest surviving examples are only two to three hundred years old. Furthermore, nomads do not typically keep historical records, and it is natural that we do not have accurate information about the origins of one of their creations. In these weavings, due to the diversity of tribes, ethnic groups, and clans, a variety of patterns and designs exist. However, this diversity has disappeared in contemporary Iranian rugs, which have become uniform and lacking in variety. This rug, which is commonly used by Turkmen as a prayer rug, is one of the common designs used in small-sized rugs and rugs.
